Pirates seize Saudi oil tanker

US navy says giant crude carrier seized by Somali pirates off Kenyan coast.

Pirates have attacked and taken control of the Saudi-owned crude carrier Sirius Star off the east coast of Africa, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based US Navy Fifth Fleet says.

Lieutenant Nate Christensen's confirmation on Monday followed a statement saying that the tanker, which is owned by Saudi Aramco, came under attack more than 450 nautical miles southeast of Mombasa, Kenya.

 

CIA officers could face trial in Britain over torture allegations

Senior CIA officers could be put on trial in Britain after it emerged last night that the Attorney General is to investigate allegations that a British resident held in Guantanamo Bay was brutally tortured, after being arrested and questioned by American forces following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington in 2001.

Financial Crisis like 'Tsunami' says Greenspan

Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan has called the recent turmoil in the global financial markets a "once in a century credit tsunami".
Speaking before Congress, Mr Greenspan, who stood down as Fed chairman in 2006, said the crisis had left him "in a state of shocked disbelief".

Now army airstrikes are killing the innocent, say refugees who fled fighting set off by a Pakistani military offensive against the Islamic extremists. The army maintains it is winning the war in the Bajur tribal belt along the border with Afghanistan.
